We currently have nine Upstarter-led employee resource groups (ERGs) designed to support Upstarters in communities that matter to them. Our first ERG is Superwomen and our newest ERG is the Veterans Community. We also encourage Upstarters to join ERGs that don’t always align with their experiences so they can learn from those who are different from them.
We also have a host of clubs that enable Upstarters to connect over shared interests such as running, investing, gardening, photography, and even sneakers!
As part of our digital-first approach, we regularly create opportunities to bring teams together (digitally and in-person) for planning, connection, and fun! For starters, we welcome new Upstarters through Upstart Orientation at our San Mateo office. New hires get to meet our leadership team, receive overviews on all our products, and dig into how to thrive in a digital-first environment. In addition, we use in-person gatherings as a chance to align on strategy and reinforce our mission of improving access to credit for all.
As a digital-first company, we also recognize the importance of in-person gatherings to connect our teams. One example of this is Upstart Live, our largest in-person event that provides an opportunity for Upstarters to spend meaningful time together to re-engage with our mission, hear from top leaders, and build momentum to prepare for the year ahead.
Upstarters care about growth and development and use their annual development stipends to attend conferences, learn foreign languages, and gain new skills! Recently, we also launched “Upstart Unlocked," a fireside chat series with our leaders on how their own careers evolved and what led them to Upstart.
Togetherness and transparency are hallmarks of Upstart culture.
Upstarters hear regularly from our leadership team and one another. Upstarters are invited to TGIF most Fridays where they get the latest Upstart news, product demos, and a live Q&A with Upstart leaders.
